As a frontline, grassroots migrant and refugee support organisation, we have been alarmed, saddened and angered by the scenes of racist, far-right, Islamophobic and anti-refugee violence in different parts of the UK since 30th July.
This violence has been shocking and extreme, but it has not come out of nowhere. It has been fuelled by years, decades even, of racist state policies and toxic media narratives around Muslims, Black and Brown people, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
We must come out and support members of our community who are under threat of attack in the coming days and weeks.
There are reports that a local immigration law firm will be targeted by members of the far right at 8pm on Wednesday 7th August.
Therefore we will be joining other groups, organisations and individuals from across Waltham Forest in a peaceful Unity Rally to show that we stand together and that solidarity is stronger than hate.
- Date: Wednesday 7th August.
- Time: 7pm.
- Address: 187 Hoe Street, E17 3AP (opposite MacDonald’s).
Please, if you can, turn up with someone you know and leave with someone you know. Keeping each other safe in these times is incredibly important.
We are many, they are few! We are Waltham Forest: stand together!
